Every now and then, we receive a message that absolutely makes our day.
A few weeks ago, we heard from Paul in Gisborne about his German Shepherd, Lucy, and honestly, we couldn't wait to share her story with our Kooky Kibble whānau.
Meet Lucy
Lucy is a nearly seven-year-old German Shepherd who has been through more than her fair share of challenges.
About four to five years ago, she was diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), a condition that makes it difficult for dogs to properly digest food and absorb nutrients.
For Paul and Lucy, it was a scary time.
"We almost lost her back then," Paul told us.
Although Lucy pulled through, keeping weight on and staying healthy remained an ongoing battle for years.
Then Something Changed
About a month after switching Lucy to Kooky Kibble, Paul started noticing some pretty amazing changes.
People were stopping them on walks to comment on how good Lucy looked.
Her coat was looking shiny and healthy.
She had more energy.
And best of all, she was starting to act like her old self again.
Paul wrote:
"The change has been nothing short of miraculous. Recently, people have been stopping us to comment on how good she looks. Her coat is shiny, and she has a level of energy that she hasn't had in years."
As dog owners ourselves, we know there’s nothing quite like seeing your best mate feeling good again.
Why We Started Kooky Kibble
Stories like Lucy's are exactly why Kooky Kibble exists.
We wanted to create a pet food that's affordable for Kiwi families, helps reduce food waste, and keeps pets happy and well-fed.
Hearing that Lucy is thriving again reminds us why we do what we do every day.
When Paul's email landed in our inbox, the whole team was absolutely stoked.
A Word from Paul
Paul also shared why he continues to choose Kooky Kibble:
"I really want to emphasise how fantastic your product is. Not only has it made a massive difference in Lucy's health and energy, but it's also an incredible value compared to other options on the market."
And this bit genuinely made us smile:
"I haven't felt the need to shop around at all since finding you guys because nothing else compares."
That's about the highest compliment a small Kiwi brand can receive.
Thank You, Paul and Lucy
We're incredibly grateful to Paul for sharing Lucy's journey and allowing us to tell her story.
His hope is that another pet owner dealing with similar challenges might find some encouragement from Lucy's experience.
And we couldn't agree more.
From all of us here at Kooky Kibble, thank you for being part of our whānau.
Give Lucy a big cuddle from us, and here's to plenty more walks, tail wags, and good times ahead. 🤎
Have Your Own Kooky Kibble Story?
We'd love to hear it.
Whether your dog has found their new favourite food, your cat comes running at dinner time, or you've noticed positive changes in your pet, flick us a message and tell us all about it.
Your story could help another Kiwi pet parent find the right food for their furry mate.

Thats great to hear. I wish i could give my two epi dogs kookykibble but the fibre is too high, should be at 4% or less. However, my non epi dog loves kookykibble👍
